Laureen Coffelt was a Canadian varsity athlete , specializing in the 3000 M (9:40 ), 1500 M (4:32.9), 5000 M (17:15) , who thought running would always be her sanctuary. She was recruited to Memphis as an Occupational Therapist in 1994, and has claimed it to be home now. She enjoys her work at OrthoMemphis as a hand therapist.
An athletic injury and surgery forced her to get on a mountain bike, and slow down on the runs (no more full-blast speed work). The injury still allows her to run, but she realized there was a ton of room for improvement, in the sport of mountain biking. The endurance thing suited her best, and the bike is her new best friend.
Her happiest recent racing memory: having the courage to finally get Chris Eatough's autograph at the Cohutta 100.
Goals for 2009 :
Complete the National Ultra Endurance MTB series
Mix it up with some ADVENTURE RACING with my LAB RATS team!
Endure the Iron Butt 100 for mental/physical prep before World SOLOS!
